Christmas greeting from the President of MyRight
2017 has been an eventful year and MyRight has gathered forces internally, collaborated within and outside our existing networks and made new interesting contacts.
There are many milestones to loock back on. In December, MyRight in Nepal and its partner organizations in Nepal organized the conference ”Harvesting the current frame: nurturing the next” in Kathmandu. Nepal has introduced a historic new law on the rights of people with disabilities.
At the same time, sign language is about to become a recognized language in both Bolivia and Sri Lanka.
MyRight in Sri Lanka and in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been working on shadow reports to follow up and influence how the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is respected in the countries.
A number of workshops for project activists from the Member organizations have focused on areas such as gender, communication, partnership and organizational development, poverty alleviation, empowerment and human rights.
To highlight the Sustainability development goals and the 2030 Agenda from a disability perspective, MyRight has launched the information project Our Solution: Inclusion and the two campaigns “Conquering the World” and “To Face Life” with Movies and Reports. The launches have been made with debates and seminars during the Almedal politician week on the island of Gotland, Sweden in July and on Human Rights Days in Jönköping, Sweden in November.
MyRight will undergo a reorganization that will be finalized in the beginning of 2018. I look forward to new opportunities to further develop our work, in line with these new organizational changes.
So as we close the chapter of 2017, I am very proud to receive preliminary announcements from our frame organization, Forum Syd, that has decided to support our cooperation projects and communication work in the coming years. MyRight wants to continue to be an important player, contributing to global development and strengthening the rights of people with disabilities. This is possible thanks to our member organizations and the partner organizations they collaborate with around the world. Thank you all for your efforts this year!
Finally, on behalf of MyRight’s board and secretariat I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
With kind greetings,
