We are very concerned about how Swedish aid is changing, writes Jamie Bolling in Göteborgsposten today.

The government says it wants to use aid to strengthen support for civil society and for human rights and democracy defenders. With higher requirements for own fundraising, the government risks the opposite effect, 42 organisations write.

According to the World Health Organisation, one in eight people on earth has a mental disability. Yet in many societies, people who are mentally fragile are treated badly.

At the SDG Summit, which opens today, Sweden has the chance to take the lead and take a stand for the world's one billion people with disabilities.

”After seven years at MyRight, I have realised that knowledge about the vulnerability of people with disabilities is frighteningly low,” writes Mia Munkhammar, Communications Officer at MyRight.

The government's scrapped support for information activities in Sweden is hitting MyRight hard.

Together with 10 other organizations, MyRight has sent an open letter to the Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forsell, about the Joint Commitments for strengthened dialogue and cooperation within development cooperation (GÅ) and aid for civil society actors.

The change of government risks taking us backwards when we need to move forward even faster. We face a steep uphill battle in many of the global challenges we must deal with. It requires more international cooperation, not less.
