Maria Mapunda f\u00f6ddes den 2 februari 2024 i Ruvuma-regionen i Tanzania. Hon f\u00f6ddes med sjukdomen Hydrocefalus, men det tog fyra m\u00e5nader innan f\u00f6r\u00e4ldrarna fick veta vad hon led av. MyRights samarbetsorganisation Asbaht drev d\u00e5 en upplysningskampanj genom medierna och kom i kontakt med familjen och en socialarbetare i regionen. Socialarbetaren sade att familjen var mycket fattig och insisterade p\u00e5 att Asbaht skulle hj\u00e4lpa familjen f\u00f6r att r\u00e4dda Marias liv.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Asbaht betalade f\u00f6r\u00e4ldrarnas kostnader f\u00f6r att ta sig till Dar es Salaam. D\u00e4r fanns ett sjukhus som kunde erbjuda behandling och Asbahts rehabiliteringscenter House of Hope. Marias tillst\u00e5nd var mycket d\u00e5ligt p\u00e5 grund av f\u00f6r\u00e4ldrarnas bristande kunskap. Mamman sade att hon var r\u00e4dd f\u00f6r sitt barn, andra hade sagt att hon inte var en normal varelse. Eftersom sl\u00e4ktingar och grannar hade sagt att barnet kunde d\u00f6 n\u00e4r som helst hade f\u00f6r\u00e4ldrarna inte varit s\u00e5 noga med att ge henne r\u00e4tt n\u00e4ring, vilket lett till att Maria var kraftigt undern\u00e4rd. Men p\u00e5 House of Hope fick hon en s\u00e4rskild n\u00e4ringsdiet, och Asbaht tog ansvar f\u00f6r hennes sjukhusbes\u00f6k och behandling tills hennes h\u00e4lsa f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrades.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Sex m\u00e5nader senare avslutade Maria behandlingen och kunde \u00e5terv\u00e4nda hem. Hennes mamma var s\u00e5 lycklig att hon med t\u00e5rarna rinnande f\u00f6ll hon p\u00e5 kn\u00e4 och tackade Gud och Asbaht f\u00f6r dotterns v\u00e5rd. Hon sade: ”Jag hade inte f\u00f6rv\u00e4ntat mig att hon skulle \u00f6verleva, \u00e4n mindre att hon skulle kunna f\u00f6rst\u00e5 och prata med mig. Jag k\u00e4nner en enorm tacksamhet till Asbaht och alla som st\u00f6ttar dem f\u00f6r att de r\u00e4ddade min dotter. Hemma f\u00f6rv\u00e4ntade de sig att jag skulle komma tillbaka med min dotters d\u00f6da kropp, men s\u00e5 blev det inte. Jag ber er att forts\u00e4tta hj\u00e4lpa andra barn som Maria.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Familjens ber\u00e4ttelse visar p\u00e5 vikten av att forts\u00e4tta sprida kunskap om olika funktionsneds\u00e4ttningar och erbjuda st\u00f6d till de som annars inte har m\u00f6jlighet att s\u00f6ka v\u00e5rd.
